Easy Babywearing Twins

Babywearing Twins in 4 Simple Steps

Loading and unloading twins into two Ergo Baby Carriers is easier than you might think. This carrying position will work once your twins can sit up. It takes some practice, so I recommend a helper for the back load until you become more confident and your babies more stable. But keep at it, and you’ll be a pro at babywearing twins in no time.

There are four main tricks to loading your twins into two Ergo Carriers. Let’s break them down.

1.) START WITH YOUR HEAVIER KID

Strap your carrier around your waist in a SIDE position. Then, here’s the trick, use your ARM to push your child around to your back. (while holding the straps over your head, of course). Your waist strap should slip around until your child, and the carrier is positioned behind you.

2.) SUPPORT AND SECURE

Reach behind you with the arm that is already threaded through a strap to hold your child in place. That’s the same arm that you used to push your child around behind you with. Then slip your other arm through the second strap. Click your breast strap in front of you and tighten your waist strap.

One done.

3.) FRONT LOAD YOUR SMALLER CHILD

Secure your second Ergo Carrier around your waist. Placing the waist strap UNDER the legs of your rear child. (that’s important) Then bend your knees to pick up, or have a helper hand you, your second child. Straddle them in front of you in the carrier, and pull the carrier up to put your hands through the straps.

4.) Snap It Up, Tighten It Up

Reach behind you, being sure to never let go of the straps, and snap the breast buckle behind you. Now that both babies are loaded, take a minute to readjust and tighten things up.

I highly recommend doing this in front of a mirror the first several times. That way you can keep an eye on your back. Be sure to take your time and do this when you babies are in a good mood. The more relaxed and calm you are, the calmer your twins will be. Having a helper will also make it less stressful, and help ensure a more positive experience for all.

UNLOADING AFTER BABYWEARING TWINS

Congrats! You’ve loaded your twins. Wait? Now how do you get them down?

Unbuckle your front baby’s breast buckle and slip the front child off first. Then take the steps you took to load your back carrying child, and do them in reverse.

Slide, or bounce, baby from back to front. Then slide them off your hip to the group.
