Love don’t cost a thing, so why should Valentine’s Day? If you’re on a budget this year, or just trying to live life more frugally, I’ve got 8 GREAT cheap (or Free!) ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day that your partner is sure to LOVE.
My husband and I have been married over thirteen years. We have four kids together, and aren’t always feeling romantic. Balancing our hectic work and family schedule isn’t always easy, but we both know how important it is to keep our relationship strong.
Over the years, as we’ve struggled to get out of debt, we haven’t had a lot of money to spend on each other. The one thing we’ve always had is LOVE, and that’s the one thing that really matters anyway.
Be sure to keep love in the forefront of all your plans this Valentine’s Day, and you’ll never go wrong.
Cheap Ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day
1. FREE Time
If you have kids, you understand. One of the greatest gifts my husband and I can give each other is time. Time to do whatever we want to do. This is a precious commodity in our lives.
It might sound odd to give a gift on Valentine’s Day that involves your loved one being without YOU. However, we all need a little personal time, and it’s important to refuel once in a while. After my husband and I spend a little “me” time, we often treat each other better and feel more romantic in general.
If you don’t have kids, or haven’t been together a while, then just commit to spend time WITH your loved one doing whatever they like best. Do it with a good attitude. Be as supportive as possible. They’ll love the effort you’re putting forth to spend time doing their thing.
2. Clean His/Her Car
Our minivan takes a beating. Empty sippy cups, school papers, toys and dirty tissues fill the cracks and crevices. It’s horrible. We’re often too busy to spend the time to clean our cars thoroughly and it’s fantastic to jump into a CLEAN car.
Grab a trash bag, a hand vacuum and a bucket and get scrubbing. If you have a little money to spend you could head to a car wash, or get their car detailed.
3. Make a Meal (and serve it with candles!)
Cook something up for dinner and serve it with some romantic candles. Even if you aren’t the best cook, you can still make it with LOVE.
4. Hand Deliver a LUNCH to Them at Work
A surprise visit from you at their office, with a sweet picnic basket filled with their favorite lunch food items is sure to make for a sweet gift. I know I’d love it!
5. Film a Video Message
Skip the card. They’re just too expensive these days. use your phone to film a sweet video talking about all the ways you love your partner. Too sappy? How about just talking about your favorite experience with them from the past year.
6. Give a Massage
Massage? Yes, please! Who says no to a massage? I recommend setting a timer to ensure you both get at least 15 minutes. Massages can be super sexy, and definitely lead to some romantic sparks. Not to mention the stress relief they give.
7. Take a Walk, Hike or Jog (Together + Someplace New)
When my husband and I feel angry with each other, we WALK it out. Without fail, if we take a walk together, it gives us time to talk, be in nature, and get those good endorphins moving. By the end of the walk we’re feeling good.
8. Draw Our (LOVE) Story
I suggest taking a notebook and drawing your LOVE story. Ever hear of “Draw My Life”? Lots of YouTube Channels have filmed videos in which they draw important scenes from their life in order to tell their life stories.
You can keep the notebook and every year add a DATE DAY Bucket List. Work on the list together, of course. It’ll be fun to cross off the items as you do them, and then add to it every year.
