Easy DIY Chore Chart (Flags!) for Kids

DIY Chore Chart

Create a fun and kid-friendly chore chart to help teach your kids responsibility.

Chore Chart DIY

Little kids keep us Parents hopping!

Let them help you out around the house with 5 simple tasks that they can complete in either a day, or a week. One “pin” per responsibility. You can set a dollar amount per pin. We do $1 a responsibility for our older child and a quarter for our preschoolers.

Get your Responsibilities Flag started with some inexpensive clothes pins. I’m sure you’ve got a few floating around. Use a permanent marker to write the names of the chores onto the front (and back) of the pins.

Hang a flag pendant. We have ours on our chalkboard wall. This way we could write the initials of each child above their flag.

Your finished chore pins will be clipped to the LEFT side of a flag on a string of pennant flags. Assign a single flag per child. Have them move the pin from left to right once a task is completed.

Secure your flag to a blackboard (like we did) or the wall. This system works great for big families. You can add each child’s name above their flag, or sew their names into the flags themselves.

The chore chart flags are colorful and easy. It’s a terrific way to motivate your kids to get things done. Working for money is an important part of learning work ethic and responsibility.

If your kids don’t do their chores, they don’t get paid. Be sure to make a big show of pay-day on Fridays. Watching siblings get money for their piggy banks is sure to help encourage a little competition.

In our house it’s not uncommon to see a child running off to complete a quick chore after seeing another get handed their full chore money. It works like a charm.
