My 4 year old twin boys enjoy dressing up more than my two girls do. Which is why I decided to create a “HERO UP” station, as opposed to a “dress up” station. Check out how I converted this old trunk into a Costume Trunk.
DRESS UP AIN’T JUST FOR GIRLS
To begin creating our Costume Trunk I went to Goodwill and spotted an old steam trunk. At a price of $6.97, I couldn’t go wrong.
Next I grabbed an old bottle of Mod Podge and some leftover super hero fabric I had from an old project. I could have lined the entire inside, but opted just for the bottom and top.
I added inexpensive self adhesive mirror decals to the top of the trunk, and painted the words “Hero Up” on the front with white paint. A few super hero cut outs mod podged on, and I was done. SIMPLE!
You can add legs to your trunk, depending on how tall your little ones are. It’s not a bad idea to add child safety hinges as well to prevent the lid from slamming shut on little fingers.
The boys really enjoyed adding their costumes into the trunk. We keep the lid open constantly. I think it’s not only functional but a whimsical, Harry Potter type look. I can imagineĀ little wizards everywhere having a trunk like this in their homes.
We have skeleton, Iron Man, Cowboy (and Cowgirl!) costume pieces. We received a box of HATS this Christmas and they’ve been wildly popular. Sometimes all you need is a hat to alter your entire personality.
Dress up sparks the imagination. It’s important to help foster that in both our girls — AND our boys. Won’t you add a little magic to your household, with a special spot for your little hero in training.
